Guidelines — St. Anne’s Hill Historic District Google Group

Purpose
The purpose of the St. Anne’s Hill Historic District Google Group is to share information that may be of interest or of use to the members of the St. Anne’s Hill Historic Society (SAHHS), especially as related to the neighborhood. These guidelines are designed to encourage positive discussion in the community and to provide reasonable limits for this shared resource, which is provided as a benefit to our members.

Guidelines

The following subjects are appropriate to publicize and discuss on the St. Anne’s Hill Historic District Google Group:

All events sponsored by the SAHHS.
News relating to the neighborhood.
Other events in the neighborhood that may be of interest to St. Anne’s Hill residents and are open to everyone in the neighborhood.
Announcements of events occurring in other historic neighborhoods that may be of interest to neighbors.
Announcements of events occurring in the City of Dayton, that are open to the public, and may be of interest to neighbors.
Items that are for sale or being given away by residents. This should be done on a once-only basis and not by someone who sells items regularly as a source of income. For example, if someone does home repair, becomes a salesman at a business, sells insurance, etc., this may be announced on a one-time-only basis.
Information relating to the safety and security of the neighborhood, such as crimes committed in St. Anne’s Hill, known criminals in our midst, suspicious people and activity in St. Anne’s Hill, and follow-up related to crime. Care must be taken not to state or forward information that is not true.
Missing cats, lost dogs, etc.
An individual or group that is holding a function in the neighborhood to support a party, candidate, or ballot issue, that is open to the entire neighborhood, may announce this.
An event open to the public at a place of worship.

The following items and links to such items are prohibited:

Statements or messages that are not true. Forwarded messages from other sources must be verified and a source link must be provided.
Anything that supports or opposes political candidates or parties. Political discussions are discouraged and are not appropriate for this forum.

The St. Anne’s Hill Historical Society is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization. According to the IRS, “all section 501(c)(3) organizations are absolutely prohibited from directly or indirectly participating in, or intervening in, any political campaign on behalf of (or in opposition to) any candidate for elective public office.”

(Members of a 501(c) 3 organization may express their opinions about ballot issues; such as tax levies, bond measures, constitutional amendments, etc. Such communication is allowed in the St. Anne’s Hill Historic District Google Group.)

Anything that supports or opposes a particular religion, denomination, church, or other religious organization. Theological discussions are discouraged and are not appropriate for this forum.
Any obscene language or anything that is sexually explicit.
Any racial, ethnic, or religious slurs.
Anything that victimizes, harasses, degrades, or intimidates an individual or group on the basis of religion, gender, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, age or disability.
Spam, pyramid schemes, chain letters, or disruptive commercial messages or advertisements.
Any cartoons or jokes.
Anything that is illegal or promotes or suggests illegal activity.
Anything that infringes on a patent, trademark, copyright, trade secret, right of publicity, or proprietary right.
Impersonating someone else.
Messages that do not identify the originator (the originator’s name must be obvious in his or her e-mail address, or he/she must sign a first and last name).
Inappropriate or impolite criticism of other people or their opinions.
Promoting one’s own business or soliciting (other than an initial announcement), unless such information is requested by another member.
Anything that defames, abuses, harasses, stalks, threatens or otherwise violates the legal rights or privacy of others.
Any computer viruses or other malicious software that is intended to disrupt or damage a recipient’s computer or software.

General

Membership in the Google Group is voluntary and is open to all dues-paying members of the SAHHS.
Members of the group should treat all people and groups of people with respect
Members may forward e-mails from the St. Anne’s Hill Historic District Google Group to others outside the neighborhood, but discretion should be exercised and members should avoid distributing personal information.
Members should recognize that e-mails may be sent or may be forwarded to government e-mail addresses, including law enforcement officers and other public officials. These e-mails may become public record and subject to the Freedom of Information Act.
SAHHS reserves the right to remove individuals from the St. Anne’s Hill Historic District Google Group if they violate these guidelines.
Members may unsubscribe by hitting the “unsubscribe” link at the bottom of any St. Anne’s Hill Historic District Google Group e-mail. Also, you may “digest” your messages to combine up to 25 messages into one e-mail, or you may “abridge” your messages to get one summary per day. To either abridge or digest, click on the “options” link at the bottom of any St. Anne’s Hill Historic District Google Group e-mail, and follow instructions.
Care must be taken when replying to Google Group e-mails. Consider if you really want everyone the group to see your reply. If a recipient “Replies to All,” the message will be sent to everyone in the Google Group. To respond to a single individual, just reply.
